Student Resources - Chapter 4
Internet Activity 4.1
Go to www.poverty.org.uk (the Poverty Site) and research some of the latest available data on poverty in the UK or in constituent countries of the UK (Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Rural England) or regions of the UK (East Midlands etc.). Information can be presented in a number of ways so be prepared to follow links to gain more information.
1. Select some aspect of poverty, such as poverty and disability, age, geographical region, gender or ethnicity, etc., and use this criterion for displaying the poverty data. If you are working in a group you can divide up different aspects between you to gain a fuller picture.
2. Using the evidence you have collected, write a report of about 250 words on your chosen area, such as ‘Disability and poverty in contemporary Britain’ or ‘Disability and Poverty in the East Midlands’. Try to include some explanations for your findings.
