Student Resources - Chapter 7
Internet Activity 7.1
Exploring the state of health in your area
- Go to www.apho.org.uk. This is the site of the Association of Public Health Observatories, which contains a wide range of health information and statistics, including overall health profiles of countries, regions and small areas within the UK.
- Click on Health Profiles, follow the links and download the latest available health profile for your area. This will show a range of indicators on health in your area, usually showing how these compare to the wider county or borough and to the national average.
- Based on your knowledge as both a local resident and a sociologist, and using the evidence you have collected, write a report of about 250 words on the state of health in your area, including a range of possible explanations for differences in health with other areas.
