Oliver Ramsbotham

Oliver Ramsbotham is Professor of Conflict Resolution at the Department of Peace Studies, University of Bradford. In the 1990s he was co-director of the Centre for Conflict Resolution, which he helped to build and develop in collaboration with the Director, Professor Tom Woodhouse. He was Head of Department 1999–2002. Large numbers of students from all over the world come to Bradford each year to take Conflict Resolution BA and MA degrees, and to conduct PhD research.

Recognised internationally for his work on international mediation and peacekeeping, Oliver Ramsbotham has, along with Tom Woodhouse, provided consultancy and training in mediation and conflict resolution processes to UN agencies and organizations in conflict zones around the world.

His current research interests within the broad conflict resolution/conflict transformation field include: humanitarian intervention, just war and the ethics of intervention; post-war reconstruction and peacebuilding; international peacekeeping; culture and conflict resolution (including Islamic and Christian approaches to peace, war and the resolution of conflict); reconciliation; and dialogue, discourse and disagreement. He has published articles and written papers on all these topics. He is currently completing a book on radical disagreement.
