The Author

John Kingdom teaches politics and public administration at Sheffield Hallam University and is well known for his lively political analysis on local radio and TV. He is also a principal examiner for A-level government and politics.

John's books are renowned for their witty and enthusiastic approach, qualities that make light work of the heaviest political topics for students. The first edition of Government and Politics in Britain was awarded the 1991 Politics Association Book Prize and was selected by political commentator Peter Hennessy as one of his three books of the year.

In addition to the first and second editions of Government and Politics in Britain (Polity, 1991 and 1999), his previous books include The Civil Service in Liberal Democracies (Routledge, 1990), Local Government in Britain (Philip Allan, 1991) and No Such Thing as Society (Open University Press, 1992). He has also contributed chapters to a number of edited collections.
