Michael Bury is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of London

Michael Bury is an internationally recognised expert in the sociology of health and illness. His main research interests have been in the sociology of chronic illness, disability and ageing. He has also published on wider aspects of health and illness in modern society. For many years Michael Bury was associated with the Master's course in medical sociology at Bedford and then Royal Holloway College , in the University of London . Michael has served on a number of public bodies including the Medical Research Council and the Health Development Agency. In 2001 Michael was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Linkoping, Sweden, for his contribution to research on health. Michael is now Emeritus Professor of Sociology in the University of London .
